Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi

Rani Lakshmibai's defiant leadership during the Indian Rebellion of 1857 (First War of Indian Independence) makes her one of the most celebrated figures in Indian history. She famously fought the British forces to defend her kingdom of Jhansi and became a symbol of resistance, courage, and patriotism. Her escape on horseback, dressed as a man, and her eventual martyrdom during the battle of Gwalior cemented her place as a national hero. She remains an enduring symbol of female strength and independence.
